Geometry I: From Euclid to Pythagoras

In this course, participants use inductive and deductive reasoning to develop conjectures and proofs. They perform constructions using straightedge and compass to discover congruency and similarity of triangles.  They prove the Pythagorean Theorem and use its corollaries to solve problems. They classify quadrilaterals, investigate parallel lines and transversals, and explore the concepts of area and perimeter of two-dimensional shapes. Participants solve problems involving coordinate geometry and transformational geometry. Technology is an essential part of the course through the extensive use of Geometer’s sketchpad.
