Jennifer Miller

In addition to work as a consultant for Teachers21, Jenny Miller serves as a Teacher Leadership Coach with Teach Plus throughout urban schools in Massachusetts.  She has spent years as an administrator, literacy coach, and teacher.  She has worked extensively as a consultant, focusing on shifts in the Common Core State Standards, collaborative data inquiry, professional learning communities, differentiation, inclusion, RTI, student engagement, and literacy across the curriculum. 

After several years as Director of Liberal Arts at a two-year college, her passion to address issues of equity in public education, particularly in literacy, brought her to the Boston Public Schools where she taught ninth and tenth grade English.  From there, Jenny began working with other teachers on developing curriculum to increase student engagement and improve comprehension. As a literacy coach in Boston, she led groups of teachers through intensive inquiry groups around improving practice, helping faculty to increase ownership of district-mandated curriculum.  Through this capacity, she gained extensive experience administering and analyzing a wide variety of summative and formative assessments, using the resulting data in effective, dynamic professional development for teachers and administrators.   Jenny went on to earn her Principal Certification and spent several years working as the Director of Academics, Curriculum and Grants at Blue Hills Regional Technical School. After the birth of her child, she spent several years consulting extensively for Teachers21, providing professional development and embedded coaching to districts throughout Massachusetts.  

Several years later, Jenny began working as a Leadership Coach for Teach Plus, overseeing school-based implementation of T3, a program which brings cohorts of highly-effective teachers and coaches into schools where they are needed most.  She supported several schools which began as Level 3 or 4 schools which are now Level 1 (these schools include Orchard Gardens and the Trotter in Boston and Viveiros Elementary in Fall River).  She currently supports the Mattahunt Elementary School in Boston. 

Whether mentoring new teachers, delivering research-based engaging professional development, mapping district curriculum, leading teachers to disaggregate and respond to multiple sources of data, or modeling instructional strategies,  her primary commitment is to build the capacity of teachers and administrators to  improve student outcomes.  She holds master’s degrees from the State University of New York in Buffalo and Boston University.
