Dr. Jenny K. Tsankova is an associate professor of Mathematics Education at Roger Williams University in Bristol RI, and teaches the mathematics methods courses for elementary and secondary preservice teachers. Dr. Tsankova is also the Director of Mathematics Education Master’s Program – a unique collaboration of Fitchburg State University and Teachers 21 (a professional development provider). She is currently modeling lessons, consulting, and providing inservice training for teachers in various school systems in Massachusetts.
She is a “Master” DESE teacher, author of the course Developing Mathematical practices K-5 and she is licensed by the DESE to offer the course on a state and a national level.
Dr. Tsankova’s research interests have focused on the algebraic reasoning of elementary and middle school students, and the integration of international best practices in education in teacher pre-service and in-service training. She has co-edited a National Council of Supervisors of Mathematics monograph, co-authored articles and a K-1 textbook The Number Crew. She is a co-founder and Past President of MassMATE (Massachusetts Mathematics Association of Teacher Educators), has served on the Board of Directors of ATMIM (Association of Teachers of Mathematics in Massachusetts), and currently serves on the board of MACS (Mathematics and Computer Science Collaborative at Bridgewater State College).
Dr. Tsankova’s last endeavor is the creation of an after-school math program in Easton, MA. Number Street Math Academy combines best national and international practices, research-based key mathematics topics and active learning in small groups. In the math program children become confident problem solvers, think deeply about mathematics, enjoy learning and excel!
