Master’s Program in Mathematics Education
Teachers 21 has partnered with Simmons College to offer a Math Master’s degree program. This program is designed for teachers who have an initial or professional license in Elementary Education (1-6), or teachers who have an initial license in Middle School Mathematics. The program will lead to a professional licensure in mathematics or an additional licensure in mathematics (after passing the corresponding MTEL test in mathematics).
- Master’s of Science in Mathematics Education for Elementary School (1-6)
- Master’s of Science in Mathematics Education for Middle School (5-8)
Candidates for a Master’s in Elementary School will complete 40 credits and the candidates for a Master’s of Middle School will complete 44 credits. For more information, please call the Teachers21 office or email info@teachers21.org.
Goals
- To increase and to strengthen teachers’ mathematics content knowledge
- To deepen teachers’ pedagogical content knowledge
- To make connections between school mathematics and advanced mathematics content
- To enrich teachers’ toolkit with strategies for assessment, inquiry, with rich problems and tasks, with ways to guide their students in communication, problem solving, reasoning and proving
- To help teachers grow in their confidence as skillful math instructors
- To prepare educators to successfully pass Elementary or Middle School Subject Test (MTEL)
