Shoshy Starr

Shoshanah Starr is a former Math Specialist for the Wellesley Public Schools where she provided teachers with support to create differentiated lessons and improve student achievement.  Earlier, she served in the same role in Boston and also was a member of the TERC field testing team for implementation of the revised Investigations in Data, Number and Space.

Shoshanah Starr’s work in implementing comprehensive literacy programs has been as distinguished as her work in mathematics. 

She served for a number of years as a literacy consultant to New Hampshire schools and districts through the Learning through Teaching Program led by Louise Wrobleski.  Prior to that time, Shoshy was a classroom teacher at Lilja School in Natick which was one of 26 schools in the United States and Canada honored with the Exemplary Reading Program Award by the International Reading Association.  During her time on the Lilja School faculty, Shoshy trained colleagues and educators from elsewhere on use of the Tuning Protocol for examining student work. Additionally, she was a member of the district team that created standards based report cards for Kindergarten through grade four.

Shoshy presently consults for Teachers21 on whole school improvement plans as well as math and comprehensive literacy instruction, standards based and differentiated instruction, mentoring and new teacher support, evaluation of classroom teaching, RTI interventions in math, literacy, and behavior.  She is skilled as a coach and demonstration teacher and program evaluator.

Shoshy Starr is a graduate of the University of Vermont and has a Master’s degree in special education from American University in Washington, D.C. She has been a faculty member at Wheelock College since 2005 where she teaches undergraduate courses in literacy, math, and curriculum, as well as the Integrated Elementary and Special Education Masters program.
