Teachers21 Partners with NYC Leadership Academy to Train Turnaround Principals

Teachers21 has been awarded the Turnaround Leadership Initiative contract by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. Designed and offered in collaboration with the NYC Leadership Academy, this rigorous training program will prepare experienced and aspiring principals to lead the highest-need schools in Massachusetts. It is a highly-selective, cost-free program for educators with a commitment to closing the achievement gap and will lead to certification.
Both programs–one for experienced principals and the other for aspiring principals–begin with an intensive summer experience in July. Experienced principals then return to their schools or take on a new school assignment. During the next school year, they have release time for additional training and benefit from regular support from a highly skilled, experienced coach. If accepted as an aspiring principal, participants receive an administrative salary for the duration of the program. In the fall, they are assigned four days a week to schools with highly effective principals who serve as their mentors during the residency experience; they also receive coaching and attend full-day trainings that position them to be the frontrunners for principal openings in high-need schools across Massachusetts.

The application form is below in two formats. The Word 2007 format will allow you to type your information into “fields” which will expand as your enter your information. The Word 97-2003 format is for applicants who have an earlier version of Word on their computers, which doesn’t support fields. Your information can be typed into the areas which state “enter your text here,” even though the field won’t expand as you type. In either case, you must change the name of the file to include your own name in order to save the document.

What is the deadline for the applications and could an application be submitted without the letters of recommendations – these might arrive at a later date. Also, I have the Principal certifications but I have not worked as principal. Could I still participate in the program?
