Developing a Leadership Pipeline
As one educational leader recently commented, “If I were named superintendent tomorrow, my No. 1 priority would be an outstanding principal in every school. Everything else would be secondary.”
With that in mind John D'Auria invited school leadership teams to attend a breakfast meeting focused on the topic of “How to develop the next generation of transformational school leaders.”
The meeting was held at the Sheraton Tara Hotel in Framingham on Tuesday, February 11, 2014. During the session, he explored current research as well as promising practices that address the challenge that we are facing in cultivating and preparing a pipeline of effective and committed school leaders. Guest speakers included:
- Pam Ferner, Executive Vice President, National Initiatives from the New York City Leadership Academy (NYCLA) who shared the experience and data from NYCLA’s national work in leadership development, and
- A panel of experienced district leaders along with new school leaders who have made the transition from the classroom to the principalship in some of the most demanding high needs schools through Teachers21’s new Urban Principal Development Program, and their district supervisors.
